To say this Barça side is a total goalscoring machine is nothing new. Game after game, Hansi Flick's team have no issues in finding the net. Most recently they put three past Aston Villa in the matchday four game of the league phase of the Champions League, with Lamine Yamal getting one and Raphinha the other two.
Those three goals against the English side makes it now 60 goals this season... in just 15 games. It's difficult to match such a record and the stats show just that. It's an average of four goals a game and only seasons a century ago or longer stand up to any sort of comparison.
Last time something similar was seen was back in the 1926/27 season. The Spanish league was yet to start at the time, and albeit most games were friendlies, the Championship of Catalonia and the Championship of Spain, the precursor to the Copa del Rey, existed at the time.
With fifteen competitive games, 14 from the Catalan championship and the first in the Spanish tournament that was played afterwards, the Barça side coached by Jack Domby and then Romà Forns scored no fewer than 69 goals.
The most notable scorelines were 10-2 against FC Gràcia, 7-0 against Sabadell and 0-9 away to Terrassa. It was football from another era and Flick's Barça are putting up figures from another era. Where Samitier, Sastre and Sagi-Barba scored the goals then, it's now Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Fermín. 100 years between them, but a common denominator: an insatiable Barça.
