Canelo Alvarez recaptured his position atop the super-middleweight division as he scored a much-needed win over Christian Mbilli on Saturday, and Canelo’s trainer Eddy Reynoso has revealed who they are targeting for Alvarez’s next outing.

Canelo was in a unique position over the weekend, as fans wondered whether it would be the last time they witnessed the four-division superstar make his ring walk, with a defeat to Mbilli potentially marking the end of his iconic career.

Despite being 36-years-old and entering the bout off the back of the longest inactive streak of his 21-year career, Canelo silenced his doubters with an impressive victory and showed that his experience and intelligence means that he is still the man to beat in the 168lb scene.

Following the win, trainer Reynoso praised the display, declaring that his fighter ‘looked great in the ring’ and that he is ready to take on all comers, in an interview with Fight Hub TV.

“Honestly, right now, I just want to enjoy this [win]. I am so happy to win this title after everything people were saying and after everything that happened in the last fight.

“I think we made it clear that Saul’s team is a great school. He showed it today, he looked great in the ring and now bring on whoever!”

When quizzed on his preference, Reynoso admitted that a rematch with Terence Crawford would be his preferred option for the next bout, despite the American’s retirement last December.

“I would like Crawford to come, but we need to rest first.”

Canelo lost to Crawford in September 2025, and the Mexican superstar has been keen to try and tempt ‘Bud’ to compete again ever since their first contest.

It is understood that Canelo has one fight remaining on a four-fight contract with Riyadh Season, with reports of a return to action in either April or May already beginning to emerge.
