A former Super Eagles captain and coach, Sunday Oliseh, has narrated how a former international and former Chelsea midfielder, Mikel Obi, snubbed him as the Head Coach of the senior national team.
Oliseh, in a postcard interview with ace broadcaster, Charles Anazodo, revealed that the chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation at the time marked three players he must not invite to the national camp.
The players were Vincent Enyeama, Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike. Oliseh said: “I guess this was because they were chaotic to the NFF, they were chaotic to the system.
So, the first thing I did? I went back home to Belgium, drove all the way to Lille watched Enyeama’s training and I took him to lunch which I paid for.
Had a nice time with him and then I told him, “You are my captain. This is what I will like to do. I need you to come onboard. I put everything on the table.
Again. with my own money not NFF’s money, went to the UK. Sent message to the clubs, not only to him (Mikel) but to Victor Moses.
Gave them an appointment at a bar that was accessible in the heart of London. “Obi Mikel didn’t come to the meeting. Victor Moses came. Obi Mikel didn’t even respond to my WhatsApp message.
Even if the coach didn’t play to the level of what you liked, the fact that they gave him the title National Team Coach, you have to respect the position he’s holding.
“Now you’re in your home town and I came to meet you all the way from Belgium, you still can’t spare one hour to hangout and have a talk. That’s the biggest insult.”
