Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has admitted that Paris Saint-Germain were the better team after his side suffered a 4-2 defeat in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The defeat at the Parc des Princes ended Barcelona’s perfect start to the 2026/27 season, with Flick acknowledging that his players still have important lessons to learn from the encounter.

“PSG showed that they are a better team than us. We lost this match, but we learned a lot from it. It's not an excuse, but we have to understand that we made mistakes because we are not fresh. The effort that the team has had to do in the last couple of weeks has been unbelievable”.

Flick said after the game. The German coach identified PSG’s dangerous counter-attacks and Barcelona’s lack of energy towards the closing stages as key factors behind the result.

However, he insisted that the team must analyse its mistakes and improve rather than dwell on the disappointment. Despite the defeat, Flick praised young defender Xavi Espart for his impressive performance and maiden Champions League goal, describing the youngster’s display as fantastic.

Barcelona will now turn their attention to their upcoming El Clásico clash against Real Madrid, hoping to bounce back from their first defeat of the season.
