MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - It’s time now for our 15 Sports High School Athlete of the Week.
It’s none other than Beaver Dam’s own McKenna Nelson.
Last year, she won the WIAA State Girls Golf Championship and won the title again this year at University Ridge.
The senior will be playing golf next year at Bowling Green State University, but the question now is, is she playing some of the best golf of her life?
“Yeah, I think I am,” Nelson said. “I mean, I feel like golf is one of those sports where you always have stuff to work on, but yeah, I mean my game is felt pretty well this high school season.
“I felt really good going into the state championship and so just being in that position before like my sophomore year, I had a lot of confidence to just go back and try to get another state championship,” Nelson added.
Nelson went on to win the Division 1 title by shooting 6-under par 138 to win her second title.
“I kind of have no words for it, was really just nice to have ended my senior year that way and just kind of close my high school chapter like that,” Nelson said. “I feel like it just shows how much hard work I’ve put in through these last four years.”
Nelson appreciates everything the game of golf has given to her.
“It’s given me countless opportunities to travel all around the U.S. and just make lifelong friendships that I know I’m going to have and it’s just given me so many opportunities and it’s just made me who I am today, the person that I am,” Nelson said. “It’s kind of just like everyone kind of says this, but like when something’s like everything, but golf is really everything to me.”
