The Indiana Fever entered the 2026 WNBA season hoping to make a deep playoff run and compete for a championship. However, things did not go according to plan. Their postseason journey ended in the first round after the Las Vegas Aces eliminated them in three games.
Now, just weeks after that elimination, a major shake-up has arrived, and several Fever fans appear delighted with the news.
On Friday morning, the Fever announced that longtime executive Kelly Krauskopf had stepped down as team president. According to the organization, Krauskopf informed leadership of her decision before the conclusion of the 2026 regular season.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to help build and steward the Indiana Fever with the support and trust of [owner] Herb Simon.”
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and shared accomplishments that have shaped my time with this organization. The Fever is poised for an exciting future, and I am proud to have helped lay the foundation for its continued growth and success,” Krauskopf said in a statement.
Fever owner Herb Simon acknowledged Krauskopf’s contributions to the franchise and also praised her role in building the organization.
“When we started the Fever, Kelly saw what this franchise could become. She built it, delivered a championship, and came back when we needed her. She has played an extraordinary role in the growth of women’s basketball in Indianapolis, and our family is grateful for everything she’s given this organization. I’m proud to call her a friend,” Simon said in a statement.
As news of Krauskopf’s departure spread online, reactions from Fever fans soon followed.
Some Fever fans had called for front-office changes after the first-round exit. Now that Krauskopf is out, many fans feel vindicated. The admin of the sports media page “LiveWire” said they were sure that this would happen.
“The first Domino to fall, I’ve been trying to tell y’all,” they wrote.
Krauskopf was the Fever’s president and general manager starting with its inaugural 2000 season, guiding the team to 8 straight playoff appearances, 3 WNBA Finals, and the 2012 championship.
After serving as the first woman in an NBA executive basketball management role as Pacers assistant GM (2018–2024), she returned to the Fever in 2024 as president of basketball and business operations.
In her second stint, the Fever reached the 2025 semifinals and made the 2026 playoffs. She also helped advance the franchise’s new $78 million sports performance center, set to open in 2027.
Even after all of that, many users were pleased with her departure, arguing that the results did not justify standing still.
“I have some faith in the org…,” wrote one influencer, whereas another said, “Keep it going Herb! Your fanbase is begging for a complete overhaul – new Coach, new GM. Hell even new medical staff. Please!”
Many influencers and social media users pushed for a massive overhaul of the Fever that reached beyond the president’s office. They want to see changes at general manager, with Amber Cox, and at head coach, with Stephanie White.
“AMBER COX NEXT!!!” wrote one user, whereas another said, “Take the coach with her. We want Caitlin Clark to take the point, and not be taken out when she gets hot.”
For now, Krauskopf’s exit represents a major leadership change for the Fever. However, whether the franchise plans to make additional changes remains unclear.
