KYLIAN MBAPPE will not win the Ballon d’Or – but he heads to London having firmly wiped the smile from Lamine Yamal’s face.

Mbappe’s double, a comical opener and a shock late winner, ended Barcelona’s perfect LaLiga start.

This is why Jose Mourinho was brought back.

Ahead of the Ballon d’Or showdown between Yamal and Harry Kane tonight, Barca’s teenage terror was, in prime Mourinho fashion, booted to the Clasico fringes by Real.

Mbappe has touted himself for football’s top individual prize, but surely cannot top either Kane or his LaLiga rival tomorrow night.

But in cutting the gap to the top a from six to three points, he and Real remain in the title hunt, Raphinha’s goal irrelevant and Barca hearts broken.

Mourinho had said there was to be no specific plan to stop Barcelona’s young phenom.

He may not have altered his tactics, but Marc Cucurella had certainly been given clear guidance: make his life hell.

Whether he was walloping his Spain teammate into the air, trying to relieve him of his shirt or just snapping at his heels the frizzy-haired full-back was sticking to his task with gusto and causing clear frustration.

LaLiga’s two grandest clubs have been freescoring this season but both were struggling to create clear openings.

Raphinha fired high and then, after a fine back-heel layoff from Anthony Gordon, sent another wide.

Mbappe attempted some acrobatics but was closer to the building site of a top-tier than Joan Garcia’s goal.

Perhaps then it was inevitable that, with the eyes of the world on the Nou Camp, the opener would be more by accident than design.

Taking a break from shamelessly kicking lumps out of Yamal, Cucurella fed Yan Diomande down the left.

The winger drove forward and guided a low cross with the outside of his boot, which is where the quality ended and the slapstick took over.

Gerard Martin arrived on the scene to clear, but thumped the ball straight into Mbappe, who was flinching instead of finishing but still ended up celebrating as it cannoned in off of his knee.

Yamal had the chance to hit back almost immediately, fed on the edge of the six-yard box by Fermin Lopez but duffed his finish entirely.

A superb Bellingham run five minutes after the restart opened the door for Real to double their lead.

Two-on-one with Mbappe all the Englishman had to do was square the ball, but he opted to go alone and made a mess of it.

There was much better to come, however.

After Raphinha’s leveller looked to have this Clasico on course for a point-a-piece, Bellingham, belatedly, rose to the moment.

Some stunning skill, sidestepping one Barca shirt and rolling another, sent Eduardo Camavinga haring down the right.

The French sub squared for his compatriot to prod home and seal a first Real Madrid win here in three years.

Mourinho dropped to his knees and pumped his fist as bottles rained down on his players who celebrated in front of the Barca fans.

A bit more of that and this time next year, the Ballon d’Or and a bit more may be in the hands of Mbappe.
