On this day in 2016 Lewis Hamilton trimmed Nico Rosberg’s points lead by winning at the Circuit of the Americas.

However a Virtual Safety Car played a crucial role in the championship fight as it helped Rosberg recover second place from Daniel Ricciardo. Ironically, the VSC was caused by Ricciardo’s Red Bull team mate Max Verstappen.
