Paris Saint-Germain stands as the best football team in the world right now, according to Olympique Lyonnais manager Paulo Fonseca, whose side fell 2-0 to the reigning Ligue 1 champions at the Parc des Princes during the eighth matchday of the domestic campaign.

Strategic Discipline Undone by Individual Brilliance

Lyon managed to trouble the capital club both offensively and defensively through a well-crafted tactical setup, Fonseca told the media after the final whistle. The manager argued that his squad created more difficulties for Paris than elite sides like Barcelona or Manchester City typically encounter, despite operating with a lower tier of overall squad quality.

Everything went according to plan until the hosts broke the deadlock, leaving the visiting coach to lament the vast gap in individual talent. Paris always possesses immense strength and quality, Fonseca noted, explaining that those exceptional player attributes ultimately decided the fixture.

Squad Depletion Stifles Lyon’s Attack

Beyond the immediate result at the Parc des Princes, the Lyon bench faces a severe personnel shortage that severely limits tactical adjustments. The club currently lacks viable offensive solutions and suffers from a notable shortage of available players, creating a demanding challenge for the coaching staff.

The primary concern centers on getting sidelined players back to full fitness as quickly as possible. Fonseca admitted that managing the current offensive drought feels nearly impossible under existing conditions, leaving the squad without the necessary attacking freshness to sustain pressure over ninety minutes.

Inventing Unconventional Solutions for Upcoming Fixtures

Looking ahead to the club’s next tests, the Lyon manager acknowledged that upcoming matches will prove even more demanding while the offensive department remains short-handed. The team desperately needs a stronger physical presence inside the penalty area to convert chances.

Faced with limited personnel, Fonseca joked that he might have to invent a completely new tactical approach—raising the possibility of deploying a central defender as an emergency striker. The technical staff will review all remaining options before finalizing the lineup for their next fixture.
