ESPN icon slams Texas coach Steve Sarkisian as Arch Manning drama continues – ‘embarrassing’

THE Texas Longhorns offense is stalling, and one ESPN analyst thinks he knows why.

Arch Manning is struggling and his NFL Draft stock is slipping, but Paul Finebaum doesn’t think it’s his fault.

Instead, he is pointing the finger at Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.

“I’m beginning to wonder if Arch Manning should even start. I know he will, and he’s capable of leading them to a win, but I blame Sarkisian for every aspect of this,” Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Show.

“It’s terrible. It’s embarrassing what you’ve done to Arch Manning.

“And I wonder if he’s going to regret the day that he went to play for Steve Sarkisian.”

News broke recently that Texas will give backup quarterback KJ Lacey Jr more first-team reps in practice.

And while Manning is still expected to start, his status as the No. 1 QB at Texas could disappear with one mistake.

Texas was once the No. 1 team in the nation but has fallen to No. 19 after two losses to unranked teams.

Finebaum says that is because Sarkisian made an “absolute mess out of the most talented team in the country.”

Manning has passed for 1,295 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions across six games this year.

He has only passed for over 300 yards in a game once this season.

“I think there’s no doubt about it: Arch can play better for us,” Sarkisian said Monday.

“He’s our starter, but I need to see a better version of Arch Manning.”
