Liverpool is set for another tough week following the clash with Brighton, as games against Chelsea and Arsenal await Andoni Iraola's side.
The Reds will be tested in terms of the overall quality of the team and the depth available to the head coach, with a view to making some improvements in the future. As Iraola learns more about his team's strengths and weaknesses, a greater idea can be formed about the decisions that need to be made in terms of transfers in and out of the Premier League club.
With plans already being drafted up, here's a look at the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumors ahead of another busy day of action.
Long-serving Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are in the final year of their contracts with the club, and Football Insider claims that both players are set to leave next summer. It's reported that the Reds are considering replacing the pair in the coming months, with talks not currently planned over an extension of their current deals.
While that could change, with Van Dijk claimed to be "more likely" of the two to end up landing a new contract later on, it suggests that Liverpool is already looking to the long-term future of the team moving forward.
Liverpool.com says: It's no surprise that Liverpool hasn't currently planned any talks for either Van Dijk or Gomez, as the Reds need to consider the long-term future, and with plenty of time left to make a decision.
While plans will need to be made for the club captain in particular, considering that he starts almost every match, there is a point at which a replacement will need to be thought about. Should Van Dijk continue to play an important role, then Liverpool may be minded to offer another extension, but there could also be an opportunity to move on, weighing up the risk and reward of both options.
As for Gomez, his availability has always been the main problem. The defender hasn't been able to get on the pitch as much as the Reds would like in recent years, even if his versatility is useful. A player like Ronald Araujo, who covers both center-back and right-back, appears to be a natural upgrade, so an exit would be no surprise.
Cavan Sullivan continues to take the MLS by storm, with the 17-year-old wonderkid becoming a regular for Philadelphia Union this season.
With seven goals and seven assists in 27 league appearances so far, along with a debut for the USMNT, it's no surprise that plenty of clubs have been tracking a possible switch. Among them is Liverpool, which Sport claims has been monitoring the star's progress.
The downside for the Reds is that Manchester City has already agreed a deal with the forward, but the report adds that the club's ongoing legal case with the Premier League could complicate matters if an eventual punishment heavily impacts the team. City has been found guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules, but the club has denied any wrongdoing and appealed the verdict.
Should a possible move fall through, the Reds could make a move, while Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea have all been linked to the player. It remains to be seen if that is the case, with the current course set for City, but with the deal not yet fully confirmed, the report certainly hints at a change of circumstances.
Liverpool.com says: As Liverpool looks to build the next great team for the future, it's no surprise that someone like Sullivan has appeared on the club's radar.
However, it is a deal that would depend on plenty changing, not least the situation with City. With an appeal against the guilty verdict, it could be some time before a decision is made, and, on top of that, there are potential sanctions if the decision is upheld.
That would then need to impact Sullivan's situation and open up a move elsewhere. For Liverpool, there are simply too many different puzzle pieces that need to fall into place for the transfer to be an active case right now, but should that change, then the Reds must be at the forefront of teams looking at a deal.
