Liverpool's search for potential center-back additions continues ahead of the 2027 transfer market, with a Premier League star the latest to be linked with a switch to Merseyside.

Returning sporting director Julian Ward will be conscious of the team's concerns in the backline for the long term, as contract decisions begin to rear their head.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are in the final year of their deal at Anfield, with uncertainty surrounding whether the pair will stay on or not, while Ronald Araujo's loan will expire at the end of the season. If all three leave, then that leaves just Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni as recognized options in the center of defense.

Naturally, that has played a key role in accelerating interest in backline players, with several names linked to Liverpool in the past month.

However, the latest name on the list is Brighton ace Luka Vuskovic, who is making his mark on the Premier League after making his switch in the summer.

TeamTalk claims that Liverpool is "seriously interested" in the Croatian international, while Barcelona and Real Madrid are also in the race for the 19-year-old's signature.

Vuskovic has made quite the impression with the Seagulls after just a few months, with the side paying $66 million to Tottenham for him to replace Jan Paul van Hecke, who moved in the opposite direction. Spurs signed the defender from Hajduk Split at just 16, where he continued to develop with loans at Radomiak Radom and Westerlo until he was eligible to move to North London permanently.

Once he was an official Tottenham player at 18, a step up to Hamburg on loan came, where the youngster made himself a regular in the team. From that point, his return to Spurs would only come with the guarantee of game time, but ultimately, the club's inability to offer it led to his move to Brighton.

There have been 13 appearances for Vuskovic since then, and while there is still plenty for him to learn and develop, it's clear that his progress is catching the attention of the biggest clubs.

With a contract until 2031, Brighton is not under pressure to complete a sale for a player who has only just joined, with plenty of his best years ahead of him.

"What he has is the physicality to quickly adapt to the Premier League," Hurzeler said at the start of the season about Vuskovic, underlining his qualities.. "But definitely we shouldn't underestimate he's a really, really young boy. For his young age, he plays very mature and he definitely adapts quick.

"He still has moments, similar to the whole team performance, where he switches off a little bit, moments where he's not 100 percent into the game, moments where he also has a lack of experience, but this will come over time... We try to help, we try to give him support, and then he can be a top player."

It seems Vuskovic will be among the best in the world in the future, so it's no surprise to see Liverpool lurking, as the club needs to consider defenders moving forward.

Whether it's too early for such a move, especially with such a young center-back core of Jacquet and Leoni, remains to be seen. However, it should give some insight into the profile of the player that will be on the radar.
