Four crews, four challenges and a race through London—decided by the flip of a coin.
Nike’s Run Up The Balance hit the capital’s streets on Saturday 24th October, bringing Athene, City Daze, TravsPresents (representing Footasylum) and Foot Locker together to mark the return of cult running shoe the Nike Zoom Skylon 11. But running was only part of the challenge.
Kicking off the day at Jumbi in Peckham, the crews headed out to put their skills to the test across a series of challenges at checkpoints around London. Each offered the chance to earn Skylon Coins, with the crew collecting the most taking the win.
At Kennington Park, bike crew Collective Bikes braved the rain to lay down the Trick Shot challenge, asking the crews to identify six wheelie tricks to earn their coin. Over in Brixton Market, One Square Better took over Express Café (and its fittingly chequered floor) to host Make Your Move, a speed chess challenge that clearly left its mark on TravsPresents' Kibo, as you can see below.
Elsewhere, DJ Play Piem hosted Run The Track, a hotly-debated name-that-track challenge, while Hot Girl Boxing took charge of One Two Step, bringing a different kind of footwork into the mix.
The challenges kept the crews on their (Skylon-clad) toes and made sure there was more than one way to get ahead. Complex UK was on the ground throughout, with hosts Henrie Kwushue, Geoff Owusu and Baggys TV embedded with the crews and deep in the action.
Keeping the crews moving was the Nike Zoom Skylon 11, a lightweight marathon trainer combining Zoom Air cushioning with breathable mesh and a streamlined silhouette. Originally designed for serious runners, it’s now making a comeback as sneaker style shifts away from Y2K and towards the early 2010s.
At the end of the day, back at Jumbi, TravsPresents and City Daze finished out in front but level on Skylon Coins. With nothing separating them, the battle came down to a coin toss. Host FD flipped a Skylon Coin and TravsPresents took the W.
