UCL: Fernandes Slams Tactics After Manchester United’s 4-1 Collapse Against Como

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has expressed deep frustration following his side’s disappointing 4-1 defeat to Como in Wednesday’s Champions League fixture.

Nico Paz put Como ahead within the first two minutes, setting the tone for a dismal night from which Manchester United never recovered. With this result, United have carved out an unwanted piece of history, becoming the first English side in the competition’s annals to concede a goal within the opening two minutes in two consecutive matches.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the final whistle, a visibly frustrated Fernandes pointed to his team’s recurring slow starts and questioned their tactical approach.

“It’s not the first time; we started on the wrong foot, and they scored very early,” he said. “There was not much pressure on the ball, not many good movements with the ball, and not many things going our way.

“Conceding early makes us go into the game with a mood of defeat, and it’s difficult to get out of that, even when trying to be brave, have the ball, and make something happen. If we are not able to do that, it is going to be very difficult to get out of this situation.

“It was a decision from the staff not to press man-to-man, but rather to leave space behind, wait for them, and try to win the ball. But sometimes, when you give space to teams like this, they just gain confidence.”
