Liverpool could now have four £100m+ players after update on “unbelievable” target

Bournemouth and England midfielder Alex Scott continues to be mentioned as a transfer target for Liverpool, but his price tag may reportedly be set to rise.

The 23-year-old is out injured for the Cherries currently, but it is doing little to silence the rumours regarding a move away from the south coast in 2027.

Liverpool have been constantly linked with a move for Scott, as have Chelsea, and a departure from Bournemouth in the January transfer window hasn’t been ruled out.

Scott won’t arrive on the cheap, however, with some reports saying he will cost £100m, but it looks as though the Reds have to spend even more than that.

That’s according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who told Football Insider that the Englishman may now be even more expensive, meaning Liverpool could have four £100m+ players in their ranks:

“Interest is always going to remain in someone like Alex Scott, and probably his stock is even higher right now following his recent displays for England against Croatia.

“It’s a difficult deal to do in January because of the price tag, and it’s probably more likely to go up, and next summer will be the time maybe for Scott’s suitors to make a move for him, especially if he doesn’t sign a new contract with his current deal at Bournemouth running until 2028.”

Is Alex Scott becoming overpriced for Liverpool?

There is no doubt that Scott is an excellent young player with a huge amount of promise, being called “unbelievable” by Pep Guardiola and receiving praise from England manager Thomas Tuchel recently:

“First start and what a start, what a performance. He is so smooth on the ball, his decision making is at the highest level. He plays with so much confidence. He is so active, so confident. The work rate off the ball. He is just the complete package. He gave us a lot of mobility and a lot of variety and work rate in the centre of the pitch.”

To spend over £100m on Scott does feel over the top for Liverpool, though, with the Englishman not yet an elite midfielder, for whom such an amount should be splashed on.

The Bournemouth man is also at his best in a box-to-box role, like the Reds’ other midfielders, when there is a pressing need to sign a No.6, despite Trey Nyoni’s rapid rise.

For that reason, Liverpool should steer clear of Scott unless his price tag drops, instead targeting a deep-lying player who could have a Fabinho-esque influence.

Despite some good results recently, Andoni Iraola’s side still feels unbalanced in the middle of the park, and for all his many qualities, from technical quality to a great work ethic, that is unlikely to change if Scott were suddenly a part of it.

The fact that Iraola has worked with Scott does arguably change things a little, with the Spaniard potentially seeing him as the solution, but it is a huge amount of money to spend on someone who is still relatively unproven at the highest level.
