Brahim Diaz urged to leave Real Madrid to protect Morocco prospects

Mustapha Hadji has questioned Brahim Diaz’s international future, saying the Real Madrid forward does not deserve to play for Morocco while receiving so little club football.

The 27-year-old has made only 210 minutes of appearances in six matches across all competitions since Jose Mourinho took charge at Real Madrid. He has started just one of his four La Liga appearances, leaving him well short of the prominent role he wants in the team.

Hadji, the former Morocco playmaker, was speaking in a video interview with Kooora and delivered a blunt assessment of Diaz’s situation. He also criticised Sofyan Amrabat.

“Diaz only plays a few minutes for Real Madrid, so it will be difficult to call him up for the Morocco team because he does not deserve to play at international level in these conditions,” Hadji said.

Diaz remains one of Morocco’s leading attacking options and has shown his quality during limited opportunities, including providing two assists in the Champions League. However, Hadji believes a player cannot be expected to act as a technical leader for his country without regular competitive football.

The former midfielder said Diaz should consider leaving Real Madrid if the right offer arrives, with Saudi Arabia among the possible destinations.

“He plays for the biggest club in the world, but honestly, I advise him to move to the Saudi league if there is an offer,” Hadji said.

He also rejected the suggestion that a move to the Roshn Saudi League would necessarily represent a significant step down.

“I am a good observer of the Roshn Saudi League, and the competition there includes professionals of the highest level. The competition is fierce,” he added.

Diaz’s current position is not entirely unexpected. Before the season began, concerns had been raised about his decision to remain at Real Madrid despite the intense competition for places in attack.

Those concerns have since appeared justified. Under Mourinho, the Morocco international has remained a secondary option and has yet to establish himself as a regular starter.

That lack of playing time could become increasingly significant as Morocco’s next international commitments approach. Mohamed Ouahbi has other quality options available, and simply being a Real Madrid player may not be enough to guarantee Diaz a place in the starting line-up for the Lions of the Atlas.

Several press reports have indicated that Saudi clubs could make an approach for Diaz during the winter transfer window.

“I hope he joins a big club in Saudi Arabia or another league, so that he has the opportunity to play more than an hour in every match,” Hadji said.

Diaz must now decide whether to remain at Real Madrid and accept a limited role or move elsewhere in search of regular football. That decision could have a direct impact on his short-term prospects with Morocco.
