Blackpool beat Aston Villa's Under-21 side while Port Vale put five past Manchester City in Tuesday's EFL Trophy action.

Everton also lost at Shrewsbury Town, but Arsenal prevented a full house of defeats for Premier League youngsters as they came from behind to win at AFC Wimbledon.

Zac Ashworth, Jerry Yates and Jordan Brown scored as Blackpool came from behind to defeat Villa 3-2 at Bloomfield Road.

The Villa youngsters took the lead when Fletcher Boyd netted in the 29th minute but the Seasiders came steaming back through Ashworth, Yates and Brown before Markie Meade pulled one back for Villa in stoppage time.

Blackpool are second in Northern Group B, while Villa remain rooted to the bottom of the group table, without a point.

Manchester City conceded four times in the first 34 minutes as they were humbled 5-0 by Port Vale, who are next to bottom in League Two.

Maleace Asamoah scored the opener before Jaheim Headley, Max Watters, Lewis Montsma and Keyrol Figueroa completed the rout.

Vale top Northern Group D with seven points, while City are third.

Delighted Vale manager Jon Brady told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's a competitive fixture and we attacked it with a strong team. We attacked it to win the game and I'm glad we scored five goals."

Arsenal staged a fightback in the final 18 minutes to win 2-1 at Wimbledon after Callum Maycock gave the League One side the lead.

Scot Evan Mooney levelled five minutes after coming on as a substitute before Emerson Nwaneri struck three minutes from time to leave the Gunners youngsters top of Southern Group F with six points, with Wimbledon second.

Everton remain without a point in Northern Group E after they fell to a stoppage-time 2-1 loss at Shrewsbury Town.

Michael Golding gave Salop the lead before Omari Benjamin levelled for the Blues but Jeval Thompson-McKenzie netted the winner in the second minute of added time.

Pleased Shrewsbury boss Gavin Cowan told BBC Radio Shropshire: "Tonight was a great result for everyone and I thought the lads thoroughly deserved it. It's a great testament to the quality of this football club."
