Mamelodi Sundowns legend Peter Ndlovu made an encouraging start to life as Scottland FC’s interim head coach after guiding the Zimbabwean champions to a 1-0 victory over CAPS United on Thursday.

Emmanuel Jalai scored the decisive goal in the sixth minute as Scottland secured maximum points in Harare, giving Ndlovu an immediate boost following his promotion from team manager to head coach.

The result offers a positive beginning for the former Zimbabwe Warriors captain, who has been tasked with guiding the ambitious club through the remainder of the 2026 season.

Peter Ndlovu gets off to a winning start

Ndlovu stepped into the hot seat following Norman Mapeza’s departure after Scottland’s disappointing exit from the CAF Champions League.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns team manager was handed the responsibility of steadying the team and keeping its domestic ambitions alive.

His first assignment against CAPS United was a significant test, with Scottland needing points to maintain pressure on Castle Lager Premier Soccer League leaders Hardrock FC.

Jalai’s early strike proved enough to settle the contest, allowing Ndlovu to begin his tenure with a victory rather than the setback that could have increased the pressure on the club.

Although one result is not enough to establish whether Ndlovu can sustain a title challenge, the win provides a timely confidence boost for the new coach and his players.

Peter Ndlovu takes over after Mapeza’s exit

Scottland parted ways with Mapeza following the club’s elimination from the continental competition, where they surrendered a two-goal first-leg advantage against Angola’s Petro de Luanda before losing 3-2 on aggregate.

The coaching change also brought an overhaul of the technical team, leaving Ndlovu with the responsibility of helping restore stability.

According to The Herald, Ndlovu will be assisted by Danger Fourpence, who was promoted from the club’s academy.

Veteran forward Knowledge Musona has also taken on a player-assistant coach role.

a big task ahead

Despite his limited experience as a senior head coach, Ndlovu holds a CAF A Coaching Licence, providing a foundation for his transition from administration to the technical area.

His stature in Zimbabwean football and previous experience at Mamelodi Sundowns give him valuable experience within the professional game.

However, leading a team from the touchline presents a different challenge from managing its off-field operations.

Scottland, owned by businessman Scott Sakupwanya, have invested heavily in building a competitive squad and will expect results from their new interim coach.
