Federico Chiesa has been urged to leave Liverpool in the coming transfer window to fix the "mistake" he made by joining the Reds from Juventus.

It follows a challenging time at Anfield for the 29-year-old ever since his switch in 2024. While injuries have played a large role in the winger failing to cement a place in the team, his lack of form and momentum has also seen him struggle to fit in. The Italian international has made just 51 appearances in over two years, with five goals and five assists to his name in a period that has seen him handed very few opportunities.

While Andoni Iraola's arrival offered a fresh slate for Chiesa to work from, a back injury in preseason meant that he has been unavailable during the early phases of the season so far.

There have been several concerns for the forward since, including his omission from the Champions League squad, while a player like Hugo Ekitike, who has a long-term injury, has been included for the league phase instead.

That has perhaps summed up where Chiesa sits in the current pecking order, as his recent return to fitness has still seen snubbed from the starting lineup.

Transfer links have naturally ramped up as a result, with clubs in Serie A seemingly keen on pushing through a potential return to Italy. With that in mind, former Juventus player Angelo Di Livio has urged the star to make a move away from Liverpool.

Speaking to ReteSport, he said: "He [Chiesa] made a mistake in joining Liverpool. A player who knows how to play football always knows how to do it.

"He needs to recover, but I'd take him since he can play on both flanks. With Gasperini [at Roma], Chiesa would return to the national team."

There is still time for Chiesa to turn things around, with a few months left until the January transfer window opens up, while a switch in the summer may be more likely if it does come about.

However, if he wishes to turn things around, then the 29-year-old will seemingly have to make the most out of limited changes, considering the quality that Liverpool now has in the forward ranks.

The likes of Bradley Barcola, Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, and Victor Munoz have all made an impression early on for Iraola across the two wide positions, meaning that several things may need to happen before Chiesa can get an opportunity to shine.

In the mean time, teams will continue to circle as a potential deal could see a club land a possible bargain for a player who is seemingly not part of the plans as things stand.
