Kai Rooney's impressive run of form continued For Manchester Under-18s in their clash with Burnley, scoring four goals in a commanding 6-0 victory. The 16-year-old son of Wayne Rooney is hoping to follow in his father's footsteps and forge a career in the professional game.

The youngster has impressed for Man United's youth teams this season and his natural striker's instinct was on show just 22 minutes into Tuesday's fixture at the Clarets' training centre in Lancashire. Emmanuel Ziro floated the ball towards Jaume Camacho, with the midfielder crashing a powerful header against the post.

The ball then rebounded to Kai, who struck it firmly and low into the bottom right corner with his left foot before racing away in celebration, sliding towards the corner flag on his knees.

The youngster wasn't satisfied with just one goal for the afternoon, though, calmly slotting home from the penalty spot four minutes into the second half after being fouled inside Callum Feeney's box by Tambwe Leonard.

In the 63rd minute, Kai wrapped up his hat-trick with a looping header off the back of a corner from Jay McEvoy. A fourth arrived just three minutes later, the teenage star once again finishing low into the bottom right corner from inside the box.

Camacho added a fifth for United with eight minutes remaining, hammering the ball into the top right corner. Noah Ajayi also joined the scoring in the 84th minute by completing the 6-0 rout, reports the Manchester Evening News.

It has been a blistering start to the new campaign for Kai, who now boasts five goals and an assist from just three outings on the right flank. His form is a significant lift for United supporters amid the gloom and despair engulfing the senior side.

Michael Carrick's position remains uncertain at Old Trafford, with the 45-year-old steering the Reds to triumph in only one of their eight initial Premier League fixtures. Even more alarmingly, United have been unable to claim victory in their previous eight matches in all competitions.

Consequently, they languish 16th in the table, merely a solitary point from safety. And while Carrick still has the opportunity to reverse fortunes, tolerance is running out at the Theatre of Dreams.

Saturday's 12.30pm encounter against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge could prove to be the final straw, compounding the challenges and difficulties of an already demanding fixture in west London.

While the prospects for the senior squad appear dire at present, United fans can find solace in the knowledge that their academy is brimming with emerging talent poised to step up to the men's game.

Not only did Kai shine against Burnley on Tuesday afternoon, but Camacho demonstrated his own credentials at the weekend. The Spanish midfielder netted four himself during Saturday's 6-3 victory over Liverpool, taking his haul for the season to five goals and three assists from six outings.

Add Kai and Camacho to an already flourishing crop featuring Shea Lacey, Harry Amass and Jack and Tyler Fletcher, and United supporters have plenty to be excited about regarding emerging prospects coming through the ranks.
