Movsar Evloev has been told he should be 'cut' from the UFC roster ahead of his huge title fight against Alexander Volkanovski.

The UFC returns to Abu Dhabi on Saturday and the promotion have brought a stacked numbered event, with not one but two UFC title fights.

Petr Yan defends his UFC bantamweight weight against Merab Dvalishvili and in the main-event, Volkanovski puts his UFC featherweight title on the line against No.1 contender Evloev.

Volkanovski aims to secure the second defence of his latest championship reign, with UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev making his feelings clear on the world title contest.

Evloev has compiled an unblemished professional record, having won 20 MMA fights in a row, including 10 big UFC victories.

He's beaten the likes of Diego Lopes, Arnold Allen and Lerone Murphy along the way as he fights for UFC gold for the first time in his career.

Evloev finally gets his shot at a UFC title seven years after joining the promotion from M-1, where he won the company's bantamweight title. But he's been criticised for his fighting style, having won each of his 10 UFC fights by decision. He hasn't secured a stoppage victory since his M-1 days in 2018.

Sharing his thoughts on the UFC 333 headliner, MMA legend Jose Aldo has argued that the UFC isn't just an organisation but also a business that seeks entertainment.

If he were Dana White, Aldo said he'd wait for Evloev to lose for the first time before axing him from the roster because he 'doesn't sell'.

"The UFC isn’t just an organisation that just has to follow a rankings system. It’s a business; it’s entertainment. It’s not a matter of, 'I’m number one, so I have to fight for the title'," he told MMA Fighting.

"No. Evloev is ranked No.1 in the division, if I’m not mistaken, and if I were the president, I’d never put him in there. He could beat everybody. I’d wait for him to lose for the first time and then cut him because he’s a guy that doesn’t sell, a guy who puts on boring fights, a guy who doesn’t draw attention; he just stays inactive."

Aldo continued his scathing assessment of Evloev by name-dropping fan favourites Jean Silva and Alex Pereira, saying their aggressive styles appeal to fans despite their losses in the UFC.

The former WEC and UFC featherweight champion added: "So why would I give him that opportunity? I want to sell out my arena, I want my event to grow, there’s a lot involved. Jean Silva could lose three fights, but he’s a guy who comes forward, a guy who puts on a show. That’s what fans want to see.

"‘Poatan’ was already almost 35 when he joined the UFC and he kept growing... There are so many things you have to consider... It’s not just a matter of, 'F**k, I beat everyone'. You beat everyone by laying and praying, drawing no attention and nobody talks about anything."

Evloev may not have the most pleasing of fight styles on the eye, but he has proved to be extremely difficult to beat and has the chance to become UFC champion on Saturday.
