Bayern Munich has received some encouraging news ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League showdown with Arsenal, with Vincent Kompany expected to be available and Manuel Neuer returning to team training.

According to Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), assistant coach Aaron Danks took charge of Bayern Munich’s closed training session on Monday, with Kompany absent. However, according to Bild, the club expects the Belgian to be on the touchline against Arsenal. Kompany is also determined to be with his team for the crucial European encounter.

That report offers a more optimistic outlook than Tz’s earlier report (covered here), which suggested Bayern feared Kompany would miss the match against Arsenal. While the situation remains worth monitoring, the latest update should provide some relief for Bayern supporters hoping to see their head coach lead the team into one of its biggest tests of the season.

There was also positive news regarding Neuer per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). The Bayern Munich captain resumed team training and worked for just under 40 minutes before heading into the dressing room alongside the players who started Saturday’s Bundesliga match against RB Leipzig.

Neuer’s foot will be assessed again to determine how it responds to the increased workload. According to Bild, if no additional fluid accumulates, the veteran goalkeeper would be in line to start against Arsenal on Wednesday.

That qualification is important. Bayern Munich will not want to take unnecessary risks with its captain, particularly with such a demanding stretch of fixtures ahead. Nevertheless, Neuer’s return to the training pitch represents a promising step toward being available for the Arsenal match.

With Kompany potentially back on the touchline and Neuer moving closer to a return between the posts, Bayern has reasons for cautious optimism. The next round of assessments will determine whether both can play their expected roles in a match that could prove pivotal to Bayern Munich’s Champions League campaign.
