Middleton delivery driver Danny Weston, 37, is looking forward to competing in a four-man under 75kg prize fight on the November show organised by his coaches Tristan Haynes and Anthony Miller who run their boxing sessions from Beeston’s MSA gym.
Danny won his first Haynes Promotions title belt on the July show to remain undefeated in five bouts having started competitive boxing in autumn last year and training for two. None of his bouts have yet gone the full distance.
“This is a step-up. The other three lads are tough fighters, confident in the ring and like me determined to win the £1,000 prize. I started out to enjoy a challenge and get fit and now here I am developing both my boxing IQ and my local fanbase. I want to stay humble about recent success and take each fight as it comes. I’ve always felt confident and buoyed up by supporters shouting my name as I enter the ring keen to have fun doing the business. Winning this event would mean I’m undefeated in seven bouts.”
Sam Grayshon, 28, is also keen to win the cash prize and like Danny a relative novice to the sport that he’s come to love. “I’m originally from Drighlington but now live in Wakefield working as a roofer. I’m trained by Max Clark at his Normanton gym,” said Sam who is father to a boy of eight. “I took a charity fight three years ago and then started training seriously with Tristan and Anthony. I love the discipline of a fight training camp, the physical fitness it brings and the friendships you make. I’ve won three fights on their show but while working in London I took a bout on a whim and lost to someone more experienced. I learnt never underestimate an opponent. But opponents shouldn’t underestimate me either.”
“My dedication to boxing makes me a better role model for my son who’s a keen footballer who does junior MMA.” Danny also knows “that boxing has helped me improve mentally and physically to become a more positive role model for my three children. My oldest son Tyler has his second bout on the November show, and I’ve been impressed by how committed he’s become.”
