Hay double as Rangers move eight points clear

Rangers won to move eight points clear at the top of the table, taking advantage of their game against Motherwell being the sole survivor in Sunday's SWPL fixture card.

Storm Boelo wrecked havoc, with the other four fixtures called off, but the match at Broadwood beat the blustery conditions.

Brogan Hay returned to Rangers' starting line-up and scored twice to help Leanne Crichton's side maintain their 100% start to the campaign.

The opener came from Calliste Brookshire's corner, though Motherwell's Tegan Browning may have got the final touch.

Browning's header at the other end was saved by Rangers goalkeeper Shu Ohba before the hosts made it 2-0.

Katie Wilkinson got a touch on Nicola Docherty's ball in, and as keeper Kayla Scott tried to make the save she spilled the ball for Laura Berry to pounce.

Brookshire set up Hay to strike after the break before Wilkinson's penalty was saved by Scott.

However, a fourth arrived when Hay reacted quickly to the rebound after Scott had denied Berry.

Motherwell stay seventh in the table on seven points, below Spartans on goal difference and a point above Montrose.

The SWPL returns on 8 November, with the SWPL Cup quarter-finals taking place next weekend. Rangers host Partick Thistle, Hibernian visit Motherwell, holders Glasgow City are at home to Celtic and Hearts travel to face Boroughmuir Thistle.
