Arsenal transfer news has taken an intriguing turn, with Gilberto Mora emerging as a January target. TEAMtalk reports that Arsenal have made contact over a possible deal for the 17-year-old, who turns 18 on October 14.
Mora has already packed plenty into a career. FIFA records 53 senior appearances and 10 goals for Tijuana, and he earned a place at the 2026 World Cup. He became Mexico’s youngest player to feature at the tournament. He made his Liga MX debut at 15 years and 10 months.
The teenager operates primarily as an attacking midfielder. His game offers more than flair in the final third. He can receive between lines, turn under pressure and carry the ball through tight spaces before releasing runners. That mix matters at Arsenal, where Mikel Arteta asks his attacking players to protect possession while changing positions.
Mora could give Arteta a central creator rather than becoming another wide option. Martin Ødegaard remains central to Arsenal’s attacking structure, but adding a secure playmaker would give the manager a route through compact defences.
His low centre of gravity suits combinations around the box, while his awareness helps him find pockets behind midfielders. Arteta could use him as a No. 8, an attacking midfielder or a narrow forward.
Arsenal would need patience. Mora has only just reached adulthood, and Premier League football would demand physical intensity and discipline. A gradual integration makes more sense than throwing him straight into every league match.
This is where the deal becomes interesting. Reports have valued Mora above €40m, while earlier reports identified a release mechanism around €25m. Tijuana’s June contract announcement confirmed a structured exit mechanism, although the club did not publish its financial terms.
Paying €40m without testing the clause would make little financial sense. However, Arsenal could negotiate a package with an initial payment and performance-related add-ons if that secures the player without an immediate outlay.
Liverpool and several European clubs have tracked Mora, so Arsenal may face competition. If the €25m clause remains usable after his 18th birthday, that should be the first route to explore. If contractual conditions make a premium unavoidable, a structured €40m-plus deal could still be justified for a player Arteta can develop for years. That makes this an Arsenal transfer news story.
