Bottom club Sunderland are firmly behind manager Regis Le Bris despite a poor start to their Premier League season.

The Black Cats have won just one of their first nine league matches and lost 3-1 away to newly promoted Coventry on Saturday.

However, the north-east club believes the Frenchman can turn things around.

The board is understood to be prioritising stability and collective responsibility as it looks to improve the club's fortunes, with Chelsea visiting the north-east on the Sunday before the international break.

Le Bris joined Sunderland from Lorient in 2024 and oversaw promotion back to the Premier League after an eight-year absence in his first season in charge.

The 50-year-old then guided the club to an impressive seventh-place finish a year later, securing qualification for the Europa League.

It was the first time Sunderland had qualified for European competition in 53 years.

They have won two and drawn one of their Europa League league phase matches so far and host Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.
