Josh Allen made NFL fans livid with 'disgusting' action

NFL fans did little to hide their frustration with Josh Allen after the Bills star quarterback faced renewed accusations of flopping during a game against the Patriots

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen drew heavy criticism earlier this month after appearing to "flop" on the field

With just under 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter of the Bills' 29-26 defeat to the New England Patriots, Allen rolled out of a collapsing pocket before throwing the ball away. When edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones made minimal contact with him shortly afterward, the star quarterback dramatically threw his head back and crumpled to the ground.

Upon hitting the turf, Allen immediately looked toward the referees, seemingly lobbying for a call. Despite his apparent efforts to sell the hit, officials declined to flag Jones for roughing the passer.

Social media erupted with criticism, as countless viewers condemned Allen for what appeared to be an attempt to draw a penalty flag. "I've seen harder hits getting on the subway at rush hour," one X user wrote, while another quipped: "How is he able to perform basic human functions like breathing after that?"

A third user chimed in, "Give the Academy awards to Josh Allen for FAKING!"

Some viewers went further, arguing that Allen himself deserved a penalty for the flop. "That should have been a 15-yard automatic loss of down call on Allen there," one person commented.

Another argued, "Should be a penalty against the Bills - Qb's complain about late hits but then do this on the other hand."

This is hardly the first time that Allen has been accused of flopping during the pivotal moment of a game.

In the fourth quarter of the Bills’ 28-21 win over the Kansas City Chiefs last November, Allen performed several pump fakes before taking off and sliding well short of the first down. Linebacker Nick Bolton lightly tapped his helmet to ensure he was down, prompting the signal-caller to violently snap his head back.

Once no flag was thrown, Allen couldn’t help but laugh while trotting back to the Bills’ huddle. “He’s gonna chuckle about that one. Got him to commit,” CBS Sports commentator Jim Nantz said on the broadcast.

“Oh, that’s a little acting, a little bit there,” Tony Romo noted before sarcastically exclaiming: “Oh, no! That hurt so bad! That’s why he was chuckling. He’s like, ‘I almost got ya.’”

Nantz continued to pile it on Allen, joking: “He’s got an offseason home in Hollywood, maybe setting up a few more commercials down the road, or something bigger.”

Back in 2024, 49ers’ Nick Bosa went so far as to suggest that Allen’s tendency to flop made him incredibly difficult to face. "He can do it all,” the defensive lineman said. “He can go through reads, make any throw, he can look people off, run for first downs, run people over.

“He flops a lot, he slides, so it's tough. You never know when to hit him or not. But he's as good as it gets."
