Tottenham return to action this weekend with a crucial Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Spurs are desperate to secure their first league victory after an underwhelming start to the 2026/27 campaign, which has left them rock bottom of the table. After back-to-back draws in the Premier League, Roberto De Zerbi’s side tasted a 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa before the extended international break.
Manchester United, meanwhile, have fared slightly better, picking up five points from as many games. However, pressure is mounting on Michael Carrick with his side 12th in the table. The Red Devils entered the break with a 1-1 draw away at Fulham.
Saturday’s meeting with Man United, therefore, represents an opportunity Tottenham must simply need to take.
Date: Saturday, 10th October, 2026
Location: Old Trafford
Time: Kick-off at 17:30 HRS BST
Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo, Karl Darlow and Benjamin Sesko withdrew from international duty before the Nations League action started. Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui both picked up knocks while representing their countries and are likely to miss out.
Matthijs de Ligt and Carlos Baleba are in contention to be in the squad after featuring in a behind-closed-doors friendly against FC Lausanne-Sport, but Amad Diallo hasn’t been seen in training since picking up an ankle injury before United’s Premier League opener against Hull City.
Spurs didn’t come through the international break unscathed either, and Dutch duo Jan Paul van Hecke (foot) and Micky van de Ven (finger) sustained injuries. Van de Ven was spotted in team training on Wednesday, but his compatriot didn’t participate, so Van Hecke faces a late fitness test.
Long-term injury absentee Dejan Kulusevski took part in an 11-a-side training match behind-closed-doors at Hotspur Way during the international break, so could be nearing a return after over 500 days out. Pedro Porro, Mykhailo Mudryk, Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are all still out.
Manchester United: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Tielemans, Mainoo, Fernandes; Lacey, Mbeumo, Cunha
Tottenham: Kinsky; Gray, Tosin, Van de Ven, Udogie; Tonali, Bentancur, Fernandes; Savio, Marmoush, Solanke
Old Trafford has always been a tough place to visit for any opposition, and regardless of Man United’s poor form, it still remains the same. Before last season’s result, Spurs beat 10-man United 3-0, producing one of their best displays under then boss Ange Postecoglou.
Overall, Tottenham enjoyed dominance over United in the last couple of years, winning four of the last six games in all competitions. So, we will have a slight psychological edge, but if De Zerbi and Co. are to win their first league game of the season, they have to take the game to the hosts and force them to commit mistakes. For Carrick, Saturday offers an opportunity to build upon February’s 2-0 victory and strengthen their traditionally strong record in this fixture.
