Reds hero Barry Murphy has died

Barnsley FC legend and all-time record appearance maker Barry Murphy has died, the club announced this morning.

Barry, who played 569 games for the Reds, passed away aged 86.

He was originally from County Durham but joined Barnsley in 1962 and spent 16 years there as a player before becoming a coach.

He moved with Allan Clarke to Leeds United in 1980 but returned to Oakwell as a club ambassador and matchday host.

The club posted: 'We will truly miss you, Barry. Once a Red, always a Red.'
