Manchester United have had a difficult run of results this season, picking up just one win from five games in the league.
Away from the headline defeats, though, there have been individual bright spots, none more so than Kobbie Mainoo’s form in midfield.
Mainoo was named the club’s Player of the Month for September in a landslide vote, having been narrowly beaten to August’s award by captain Bruno Fernandes.
He started every game bar one in September, the exception being the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton, in which he came off the bench, and was shortlisted alongside Youri Tielemans and Matheus Cunha.
That individual recognition offered a rare positive during a month defined largely by frustration under Michael Carrick.
The women’s side have had their own set of individual standouts to celebrate, and one summer signing in particular has made an immediate impact.
Andrea Medina has deservedly won the Manchester United Women Player of the Month award for September, as the club announced on their website.
The Spaniard started all four of United’s league outings, twice in an unfamiliar left-wing role, and scored her first United goal from there against West Ham.
Andrea Medina won a second successive Player of the Match award for that performance, after also being voted star performer in the draw at Arsenal.
She was included in the poll alongside three other Reds, Rebeca Bernal, Mared Griffiths and Hanna Lundkvist.
The 22-year-old arrived on 1 July on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid, signing a three-year deal with an option for a further year, and took the number six shirt.
She made her Liga F debut for Real Betis, the club she supported as a girl, at just 15 years old, before moving to Atletico at 18, where she made 131 appearances and won the Copa de la Reina in 2023.
Medina started all three of Atletico’s Champions League matches against United last season, an experience she has said left a lasting impression on her given the atmosphere created by travelling United fans in Madrid.
She also won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup with Spain and earned her first senior call-up in May.
Medina has now been selected by Spain for their friendly double-header against the United States, and would make her full senior debut if picked in either game by Sonia Bermudez.
