Inter face a delicate contract negotiation with Federico Dimarco, whose lucrative contract demands could complicate his long-term future at Giuseppe Meazza.  According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italy international wants to earn around €7.5 million per season.

That would make him the club’s second-highest-paid player behind captain Lautaro Martinez, who reportedly earns €9m annually. However, Inter are reluctant to meet those demands as they look to maintain tighter control over their wage bill under owners Oaktree.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri recognize Dimarco’s importance to Cristian Chivu’s project and are prepared to improve his current terms, but they remain unwilling to exceed their established financial limits. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old currently earns roughly €5.2m per season.

Inter also hold a contractual advantage. Dimarco’s current deal expires in June 2027, but the club can unilaterally extend it by another year. According to the report, the Nerazzurri intend to activate that option before the end of 2026, securing his services until 2028 regardless of the outcome of the ongoing negotiations.

Our take on Inter & Dimarco

Dimarco has every reason to seek improved terms after a remarkable 2025/26 campaign. Last season, he scored seven goals and registered 18 assists in Serie A. However, a recent injury and increased competition from Carlos Augusto have disrupted his start to the new season.

Despite the financial disagreement, both parties remain optimistic about continuing their relationship. Dimarco has deep ties to Inter, having come through the club’s youth system, while the Nerazzurri consider him a key figure in Chivu’s squad.

A compromise could therefore emerge in the coming months, although Inter appear determined to make performance-related bonuses a central feature of any new agreement.
