Manchester United rallied from the depths of despair to win 3-2 against Roma after a miserable first half.
After 20 minutes Manchester United were 2-0 down, and it looked like it could be a desperately embarrassing night.
In the context of United failing to win a game in any competition since early September, vs Sabah, this looked like it could end up 3-0 or 4-0, or worse.
United did make it to half-time, and came back to win the match 3-2, with Bruno Fernandes netting a penalty, and Matheus Cunha scoring two late goals.
Former United star Rio Ferdinand posted to X after the victory to express his sheer delight at United getting the win.
He wrote: “You give the Man Utd fans work ethic and show some heart and they will back you through it all. The 2nd half showed that.
“The team showed heart and character to turn this game around. Cling on to the feeling tonight has given you boys and remember what got you the result.
“Sheer determination and work ethic were the foundations of that second half turnaround! We got there in the end.”
The Old Trafford crowd was rocking after Bruno Fernandes scored his penalty, which had to be retaken after he missed the first.
Bryan Mbeumo hit both posts with a shot shortly after, and the crowd was immediately amped up.
The substitutes helped make a difference, with Shea Lacey providing the assist for Matheus Cunha’s late winner.
In the first part of the game, it looked like United were giving up. But in the second half, every single player fought, and they got their reward.
