Manchester United have seen several high-profile attacking signings struggle to live up to their price tags, but few departures have been quite as drawn out as Jadon Sancho’s.
The England international arrived at Old Trafford in 2021 after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers at Borussia Dortmund.
United paid £73 million to bring him back to English football, expecting his pace, creativity and ability in one-on-one situations to transform their attack.
Instead, his time at the club became a frustrating cycle of inconsistent performances, loan spells and uncertainty over his future.
Jadon Sancho managed 12 goals in 83 appearances for the Red Devils before his five-year contract expired in June of this year.
His spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa failed to produce the sustained revival that might have helped him secure another major European club.
Sancho has now been offered to West Ham United, with his representatives exploring a potential move to the Championship side as he continues his search for a new club, according to talkSPORT.
The development comes as the 26-year-old considers an offer from Spanish outfit Getafe.
The La Liga side have reportedly proposed wages of less than £10,000 per week, a significant reduction from the lucrative contract he previously held at United.
West Ham’s position remains unclear, and there has been no confirmation that the club intends to take discussions further.
However, a free transfer could present an opportunity to recruit an experienced winger without paying a transfer fee, provided the financial terms can be agreed.
A move to the Championship would represent a striking change in direction for a player who once featured among Europe’s most sought-after young talents.
During his first spell at Dortmund, Sancho scored 50 goals in 137 appearances, building a reputation that helped convince United to make him one of their marquee signings.
His subsequent loan spells have told a different story.
Chelsea paid a reported £5 million penalty rather than complete a permanent deal after his loan, while his season at Aston Villa produced just one goal in 39 appearances across competitions.
Sancho’s last competitive outing came as a substitute in Aston Villa’s Europa League final victory over Freiburg in May.
He has since been maintaining his fitness while searching for a new destination.
