Kyle Soppe Ranks His Top Week 8 Waiver Wire Adds, With Jonah Coleman Still at No. 1

PFN Fantasy AnalystKyle Soppe made Jonah Coleman his No. 1 waiver add a week ago, and the Denver Broncos rookie keeps the spot heading into Week 8. Soppe also went further this time and called Coleman a possible league-winner.

Soppe went through his top five pickups on PFN’s YouTube channel. Cleveland Browns wide receiver KC Concepcion, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr., the Detroit Lions defense and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Caleb Douglas round out the list.

Why Jonah Coleman Is Still the No. 1 Add

Coleman’s case starts with how Denver used him in its 30-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7. Soppe said the rookie played half of the running back snaps and expects that to continue. Coleman led the Broncos’ backs with nine carries for 54 yards. That matched the combined carries of J.K. Dobbins (six) and RJ Harvey (three).

Soppe noted that Coleman had missed a month and still stepped right in. He said “his routes, his rush attempts, all that stuff was basically what RJ Harvey and J. K. Dobbins gave you as a tandem.” The veterans still scored. Harvey caught a 52-yard touchdown pass and Dobbins ran in from a yard out, so Coleman has not yet taken over the backfield. Soppe still expects it to become his before long.

The Broncos (5-2) host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8, visit the Carolina Panthers in Week 9 and are on bye in Week 10. Soppe sees a lot of favorable matchups after the bye for “a team that I still think has Super Bowl aspirations, and if they’re going to do that, they probably don’t want Bo Nix throwing the ball 35 times.” Nix threw 29 passes against Arizona.

Soppe expects Coleman to work his way into starting lineups soon, and he went further than that: “I’m going to say he could be a league-winner when all is said and done.”

KC Concepcion’s Floor in Cleveland

Concepcion caught eight of his 10 targets for 129 yards in the Browns’ 27-24 win at Tennessee and added three carries for 23 yards. Soppe said the line could have been bigger. He pointed to a dropped pass that might have gone for a touchdown of 40-plus yards. “It is what it is there, but the target volume is there,” he said.

Soppe also cited Concepcion’s average depth of target, which he put under 8 yards, as a sign that the rookie gets efficient looks. He compared that profile with teammate Denzel Boston, who he said “hits these home runs, but then he has dud weeks like you saw last week.” Boston caught three of his eight targets for 27 yards Sunday.

Soppe sees a “pretty decent floor” for Concepcion on “a team that’s overachieving all of our expectations at this point.” Cleveland is 5-2 and visits the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8.

Michael Penix Jr. as a Multi-Week Streamer

For managers streaming the quarterback position, Soppe likes Penix for the next two weeks. He did not oversell him, though. He called Penix “not a great quarterback, and probably even a worse fantasy quarterback than he is in real life, but he does what we need him to do.”

His argument is about where the ball goes. Soppe said more than 45% of Penix’s targets this season have gone to Drake London or Bijan Robinson, “and that’s the way to get paid, especially when you have plus matchups coming up.”

Soppe has Penix facing the “pass funnel Buccaneers” in Week 8 and then “the circus that is games against the Cincinnati Bengals.” He rates Penix as a streamer for both weeks, not just one.

The Detroit Lions Defense

Soppe admitted the Lions defense is no sure thing. “It’s not great, you know that,” he said, and added, “It’s not a high ceiling kind of play, because I don’t think that’s in there.”

His case for a steady floor starts with safety Brian Branch, who played in the 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers and intercepted Jordan Love. Soppe argued that Detroit’s offense puts pressure on opponents, which leads to mistakes. He said the unit has scored at least six fantasy points in three of its past four games. If an opponent drops back “somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 to 40 times, more often than not, that’s going to pay off,” he said.

Detroit hosts the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8, and Soppe said the Dolphins come after that. “Get the Lions into your lineup right now,” he said.

Caleb Douglas and the Dolphins’ November

Douglas caught two of his three targets for 70 yards and both of Miami’s receiving touchdowns, from 7 and 63 yards, in a 28-25 win over the New York Jets. It was the Dolphins’ first win. Malik Willis completed 14 of 21 passes for 208 yards and two scores in his first game after Miami’s Week 6 bye.

Soppe admitted that two touchdowns is “not always going to happen, but the scoring upside is there in this player profile.” He said Douglas scored on almost 12% of his catches in college.

He was more careful about the passing game around him. “Malik Willis looked a little bit more comfortable,” Soppe said, but he added that some of that could fade and that “we don’t really know where targets are going in Miami.”

Even so, Soppe likes the schedule through most of November. With Miami expected to play from behind in good matchups, he sees Douglas as a flex option for the month, starting with a home game against the New England Patriots in Week 8.
