The ICC Board is expected to get a valuable addition with the presence of David Boon, a former Australia international of 107 Tests and 181 ODIs. The interim Chair of Cricket Australia (CA) should be an automatic as the CA representative to the board, beginning with the ICC meeting in Bali, Indonesia, later this month.

Boon would come as a valuable additon to the decision-making body, considering his experience across several aspects of the game. Boon was part of Australia's 1987 World Cup-winning team, served as a national selector from 2000 to 2011 and spent a decade as an ICC match referee, officiating in over 400 matches. He also brings administrative experience, having been associated with Cricket Tasmania from 2014 to 2025, first as a director and later as chairman. His career has given him experience as a player, selector, match official and administrator.

Boon’s expected arrival in the ICC Board should strengthen the voice of the cricketers as he would join Roger Twose (New Zealand), Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh) and Rudie van Vuuren (Namibia), all former international players, in the Board. That is four Directors in the Board with first-hand international dressing-room experience from across Full and Associate Members.

“With the new Franchise Leagues Committee, chaired by Tamim, and a governance review under way, that experience is a practical asset when balancing imperatives of players, members and franchises - all key stakeholders in Cricket's expanding ecosystem,” said a source familiar with the ICC workings.

"ICC Chair Jay Shah has always insisted on the balance among the three formats of the game with primacy added to Test cricket. Cricket’s inclusion in LA28 and in the Olympic movement, thanks to the efforts of Shah, provide a massive opportunity for growth. Besides, the development of women's game remains a continuing priority of the ICC.

“Each involves and is influenced by decisions that touch players directly: scheduling, playing conditions, workload and officiating standards. Boon has lived those trade-offs on the field and enforced them from the referee's chair,” as pointed out by a source.
