Fresh from a 1-0 victory over Westbury United, Wells believes Weymouth remain one of the sides other teams are particularly keen to stop this season.
The Terras boss feels clubs are increasingly adopting similar tactics in an attempt to frustrate his side.
Looking ahead to the game in north Devon, he said: "We knew from the start there's a few teams in this league that have got a target on their back and we're one of them.
"Teams seem to be setting up in a fairly similar position to us just to try and catch us on the counter and prevent us from scoring goals."
Wells expects Barnstaple to present a similar challenge, but believes his players are becoming accustomed to facing teams determined to stifle their attacking threat.
He said: "I probably don't expect too much different from that to be fair.
"But it's things that we can work on at training.
"We'll prepare for that as normal and be ready to go."
Weymouth come into the game after securing back-to-back clean sheets and have show a different side to their play after more free-flowing attacking displays earlier in the season.
The Terras are also the only side left in the division who are unbeaten having won eight and drawn one game.
Barnstaple on the other hand have struggled this season having lost eight of their 12 games and have been pretty woeful at home, losing five and winning just once.
Kick off at Mill Road is at 3pm.
