Luton Town – Jack’s FA Cup Dilemma
Luton Town – Jack’s FA Cup Dilemma

It is decision time.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the Hatters commence their 2026/2027 FA Cup campaign, with a 1st round tie, against the National League One side, Forest Green Rovers.

By some strange quirk of fate, the tie is a repeat of the game, at the same stage of the competition as last year, a game the Hatters won 4-3.

Now the FA Cup may not have the pulling power it used to have, but, to me, it is still a magical competition, even though, since we’ve fallen from grace, we face two extra ties to fulfil our dreams of getting to Wembley.

We can all but dream, can’t we?

With the game scheduled for a traditional 1500 hours, on a Saturday, I am hoping the supporters, on the back of our recent fine form, flock to Kenilworth Road, to cheer the boys on.

Last season, the tie attracted an attendance of 4511, which included 462 who made the trip up to leady Bedfordshire from their abodes, hopefully, both those figures can be exceeded.

One dilemma that Jack Wilshere faces is his team selection.

Does Jack go with a strong a team as possible or does he give some fringe players, and a few youngsters, the chance to shine?

Personally, Id go for the former, I would love to see the Hatters go on a decent run in the FA Cup, it would boost the confidence of the squad no end.

However, we all know that promotion, back to the EFL Championship, is the clubs priority and that Jack may shuffle the pack, possibly fearful of key players picking up injuries.

It is a view that one of our long-time readership, Chris Winter, agrees with, suggesting that he would not be surprised if Wilshere were to give match time to the following:

  • Callum Marshall
  • Joe Johnson
  • Jake Richards
  • Harrison Ashby
  • Josh Keeley
  • Benny Benagr

Out of that sextet, it would be great to see Benagr back in action.

Recently sidelined by injury, Benagr, along with Jayden Luker and Shayden Baptiste, played a part in a recent U1 fixture, down at the Brache.

But when it comes to team selection, which way would you choose to go?
