Is Fury vs Joshua The Last Big Fight For Either Man?

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will finally share a ring at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Friday 11 December, live on Netflix. The Fury v Joshua odds frame who wins, but with Fury aged 38 and Joshua 37, the bigger question is whether either man has another fight of this size left in him.

Neither camp has built in a second meeting. “No rematch clause. It’s one fight, one-off,” Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, told Sky Sports News. “But for our mindset, it’s one and done.”

Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, put the stakes plainly: “Whoever wins, the journey continues. Whoever loses, they’ve got to think about what they’re going to do and when they’re going to do it.”

The Ring’s Mike Coppinger reported the bout will be for the WBA ‘super’ heavyweight title vacated by Oleksandr Usyk, which gives the winner a route back into the world title picture.

Fury’s record of 36 wins, two defeats and one draw includes a run of retirements and comebacks. His latest retirement followed his second points defeat to Usyk in Riyadh in December 2024. He returned this April to outpoint Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with scores of 120-108, 120-108 and 119-109, then forced Mariusz Wach to retire after seven rounds in Pattaya, Thailand, in July.

He has been clear that Cardiff is not his finish line. “I’m going to continue. I’ve got two fights left on my contract,” he told WSVN Miami. “I’ll finish off and then probably sign another 10-fight deal. Who knows?”

His preferred ending involves Usyk, the unbeaten Ukrainian who has beaten him twice. “What a way to end my career,” Fury told The Ring. “Batter this bum up and down at Cardiff in front of 80,000. Then go to Madison Square Garden and get the revenge on the rabbit finally.”

Joshua’s path to Cardiff has been harder. He was knocked out by Daniel Dubois at Wembley in September 2024, then stopped Jake Paul in the sixth round in Miami in December 2025. Days later, a car crash in Nigeria killed two of his closest team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.

In his first fight since, against Kristian Prenga in Jeddah in July, Joshua was knocked down twice in the first round before stopping the Albanian in the second. That win took his record to 30-4, with 27 knockouts.

Fury has his own view of where Joshua stands. “At the end of his career now he wants a final payday,” he said. “I’ll give it to him, no problem.”

Brown summed up the problem for whoever comes off worse: “Whoever loses here, where do they go? That’s a tough one.”

A Joshua defeat would be his fifth, and his fourth since 2021 after two losses to Usyk and one to Dubois. That record would be hard to sell for another stadium fight. A Fury defeat would mean three losses since May 2024 and would end any real case for a third Usyk fight.

For the winner, Usyk is the obvious next step, but his own timeline is uncertain. The Ring describes him as “nearing the end of his legendary career”, with reports linking him to a fight against Deontay Wilder.

For anyone following the wider heavyweight division through boxing betting markets, the realistic reading is this: Cardiff is very likely the loser’s last big fight, while the winner probably gets one more. Fury, who first retired in 2013, has said goodbye before and come back each time.
