McCann, who joined the club from Manchester United in 2021, made eight first-team appearances before moving to Forest Green Rovers in January 2023.
Reflecting on his career, McCann told The Sun: "Looking back on my career so far, I think I should have just stuck it out at Rangers.
"I was 20 and wanted to forge my own pathway."
The midfielder admitted that the swift transition from playing at Hampden in a Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen to featuring in the National League within 18 months was challenging.
McCann now plays for Cheltenham in English League Two, having joined from Barrow in the summer.
The 24-year-old has started the season well, scoring seven goals in ten appearances.
On his time at Rangers, McCann added: "It’s an amazing stadium and the atmosphere is bonkers.
"They literally live and breathe football.
"It’s not nice when you’ve got 50,000 people groaning at you when you give a pass away.
"But you’ve got to learn to deal with that."
