Lazio make move to sign former Manchester United attacker

Lazio have made a move to sign a former Manchester United attacker who is currently available as a free agent.

Manchester United have several former attackers still searching for their next opportunity as free agents, with Anthony Martial among the biggest names available.

Martial has been without a club since leaving Monterrey and remains on the market alongside fellow former United players including Jadon Sancho, Paul Pogba and Wilfried Zaha.

The Frenchman spent nine years at Old Trafford after arriving from Monaco in 2015, memorably scoring on his debut against Liverpool.

However, injuries and inconsistency prevented Martial from fulfilling his enormous early promise. He eventually left United in 2024 before spells with AEK Athens and Monterrey.

Now 30, Martial has attracted plenty of attention while searching for his next club.

Martial recently rejected a lucrative £13 million package from Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli, while Malaga, CSKA Moscow and Krasnodar have also shown interest.

However, another former United attacker could now be closing in on his own move.

The player in question is Wilfried Zaha, who remains available after his contract with Galatasaray expired during the summer.

Ivorian outlet 225foot reports that Lazio have made a concrete approach to Zaha’s representatives as they explore bringing the 33-year-old to Serie A.

Al-Ain are also seriously interested and are said to be in advanced discussions with his camp, offering a lucrative financial package.

Zaha’s United career was remarkably brief.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s final signing joined from Crystal Palace in 2013 but made just four competitive appearances for the club before returning permanently to Palace in 2015.

He ultimately established himself as a Premier League star at Selhurst Park before leaving for Galatasaray in 2023.

Zaha later spent time on loan with Lyon and Charlotte FC, but is once again searching for a club.

The Ivory Coast international reportedly wants his next destination to combine competitive football with attractive financial terms.

That leaves Zaha with a major decision between Lazio’s European project and the significant money potentially available with Al-Ain.
