A Timberwolves backcourt that was already stretched thin could be down two more bodies tonight. Anthony Edwards is out after arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Donte DiVincenzo is still working back from right Achilles tendon repair.

Both will be designated as “Out” on the injury report until deep into the winter. That was the case Sunday, when the Timberwolves dropped their initial status report, ahead of their game Monday against the 1-5 Milwaukee Bucks.

Those were the only names on it, though. That was until this afternoon, when the Timberwolves PR account posted some amendments to their original report on X… and the updates were not good news.

Star point guard LaMelo Ball is now listed as questionable with a right wrist contusion. Terrence Shannon Jr, who’s been one of the first players off the bench, is also questionable with a left hip contusion.

The timing isn’t great. Minnesota is 4-3 and coming off a 121-111 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

LaMelo Ball fouled out of that contest after just 20 minutes. He finished with 10 points on 2-of-10 shooting and five turnovers. Shannon’s night was not pretty either. He scored just two points on 1-of-8 shooting in 18 minutes.

How LaMelo Ball, Terrence Shannon Jr injuries could affect Wolves

Tip-off Monday is set for 7 p.m. CT, and the game streams locally on DAZN.

Ball has started all seven games in his first season in Minnesota. He’s averaging 14.4 points and 6.3 assists in 25.1 minutes per game. LaMelo is shooting 34.5% from three (20-of-58), and his 13 steals are tied for fourth in the NBA.

His best night came Friday against the LA Clippers, when he scored 24 points and went 6-of-14 from deep in a 127-101 win, with Edwards newly out of the lineup. Fouls have been an issue for Ball, who’s been called for 30 fouls in seven games, a career-high 4.3 per game. He’s yet to play more than 31 minutes in any game.

Finch, Gobert weigh in on Ball’s fouling issues

After Saturday’s loss in San Antonio, head coach Chris Finch stuck up for his new point guard, telling reporters that LaMelo is getting a raw deal from the officials on both ends.

Gobert had some interesting thoughts on his defensive gains, and his next steps in continuing to improve on that end of the floor, pointing to Ball getting tagged for fouls after he has already done his job.

“He’s gotta get through it … But to be fair they’re fouling him all over the floor. They got their hands on him, they’re holding him, they’re riding him off his line. At the other end, he’s being whistled for a bunch of touch fouls.”

Shannon has come off the bench in all seven games and is averaging 12.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 22.0 minutes. He is shooting 39.4% from three (13-of-33). Last season, he averaged 5.6 points in 12.5 minutes over 43 games. His season high is 19 points against the Golden State Warriors.

This is the first time Shannon has shown up on the injury report this season. If either player sits, more of the backcourt load falls on Ayo Dosunmu, Bones Hyland and Jaylen Clark. Dosunmu led Minnesota with 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting against San Antonio.

After tonight, the Wolves head to Houston on Wednesday and New Orleans on Friday.
