British teenager Freddie Slater to make F1 practice debut for Audi in Mexico and Brazil

British star Freddie Slater is set to make his Formula 1 practice debut for Audi at the Mexico Grand Prix next weekend.

The 18-year-old, who became the first driver to be signed to Audi's Driver Development Programme earlier this year, will also be taking part in first practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix next month.

Slater has had an impressive run in Formula 3 on his debut season with Trident Motorsport after he stood on the podium eight times in eight races before finishing runner-up to Ugo Ugochukwu in the championship, just 14 points between them.

"Getting behind the wheel of an F1 car at a grand prix weekend is a big moment for me and something I've been dreaming of since I was a kid," Slater said.

"I've learned a lot this year, and these Free Practice outings with Audi F1 Team will be another opportunity to keep gaining on-track experience.

"I'm really looking forward to getting out on track: my focus will be on doing the best job I can, helping the team with its programme and taking as many learnings as possible from both sessions."

Slater has also been promoted to Formula 2 for the 2027 season with Invicta, replacing title leader Rafael Camara, who has recently signed a contract for Haas in F1 for next year.

"We have seen Freddie making great progress throughout recent years, both on and off the track; it is the right time for Freddie to step-up," Audi racing director and head of the development programme Allan McNish said.

"These appearances in Mexico and Brazil will give him valuable experience of a Formula 1 race weekend, and another chance to continue his development before he steps up to Formula 2 next season.

"We are looking forward to seeing him in the R26 and supporting him through these two important FP1 sessions."
