Celtic player ratings as Mika Baur comes up trumps in Europe again but fellow summer signing lands 4/10

It's now three straight losses in the Europa League for the Hoops with more tough ties still to play

Celtic 1-2 Celta Vigo | Best of the action

Celtic's Europa League qualification hopes have been left dangling on the thinnest of threads after they were beaten 3-0 at home by Celta Vigo .

Martin O'Neill's men went into matchday three searching for their first point of the section following damaging losses to Ferencvaros and Benfica and were unable to follow up on Sunday's 7-1 thrashing of Hearts in the Premiership.

The opening 45 minutes offered little in terms of quality, with the biggest incident focusing on a penalty shout for the hosts. Callum Osmand hit the deck under contact from Javi Rueda to no avail, a decision that infuriated Celts legends Stiliyan Petrov and Neil Lennon on commentary duty.

However, the Hoops came flying out the traps after the interval to open the scoring. The lively Haissem Hassan beat Spanish veteran Marcos Alonso with a strong run down the right and his deflected cross found it's way into the path of Mika Baur, who side-footed the ball past Ionut Radu to net his fourth goal for the club.

With the crowd up, Celtic then tried to force the initiative, with Benjamin Nygren and Liam Scales going close to nabbing a crucial second goal.

But it never arrived, and O'Neill's team went onto to lose the tie by shipping two goals in three minutes courtesy of Celta defender Javier Rodriguez. First, the 23-year-old got himself in between Dane Murray and Scales to head home from Hugo Alvarez's pinpoint wide free kick and then lashed one in past Sam Johnstone from outside the box after Hoops failed to clear their lines.

The visitors threatened to add to their scoreline in the final stages but got their Europa League campaign up and running after collecting zero points from clashes with AC Omonia and Juventus.

For Celts, they have to pick themselves up for a trip to Hibs on Sunday.

Here is how Record Sport rated the men in green-and-white at Parkhead.

Sam Johnstone - 5

Was surprisingly brought in by O'Neill in place of Viljami Sinisalo having been taken out of the firing line following the 3-0 hammering at the hands of Rangers last month. The England cap could do very little with the two goals conceded on the night, especially Rodriguez's powerful drive that turned out to be the winner.

Colby Donovan - 5

Failed to cut out a key pass that allowed impressive Celta sub Mattias Svanberg to get to the byline, with his ball across the box finding it's way to Rodriguez to smash home the winner.

Got himself into the box late on to latch onto Forrest's cut back but his shot didn't threaten Radu. Then let frustration get the better off him to pick up a silly booking seconds before the final whistle

Dane Murray - 6

Handled the classy Ferran Jutgla throughout but was undone by Alvarez's superb set piece delivery for Celta's equaliser. Will hope to have done enough to retain his place in the side if Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty are not fit to return at Easter Road on Sunday.

Liam Scales - 5

Saw a looping header land on top of the crossbar with his team 1-0 up and was then caught out as Rodriguez got in between him and Murray to head home the leveller. Harshly booked for a tackle on 85 minutes despite replays suggesting that he had won the ball.

Kieran Tierney - 6

A quiet night for the Scotland star. Wasn't overly troubled down the Celta right but also wasn't able to get himself forward as much as we have been grown accustomed to with the ex Arsenal man. The main positive is that Tierney was able to play the full 90 minutes for just the fourth time this season.

Callum McGregor - 5

Alongside Baur, looked to have got in control of the midfield battle following the restart only for it to rapidly slip away as the half wore on. He certainly was not the only one but seemed to tire towards the latter stages as the Spaniard's started to play with ease in the final third .

Mika Baur - 7

Celtic's Mika Baur celebrates after scoring to make it 1-0

Bagged his second goal of the revamped Europa League group stage with a cool finish from inside the area. It's fair to see he and Camilo Duran have been Celtic's only two summer signings who have been able to hit the ground running.

Benjamin Nygren - 5

Went close to putting Hoops 2-0 up with rasping shot that was well saved by Radu but was otherwise ineffectual. Nygren banged in goals for fun last season but fans still accuse the Swede of going missing in the crunch games.

Haissem Hassan - 6

Handed a rare start and marked it with a really positive display. His bursting run down the right led to Celt's going in front after he got the better of former Chelsea and Spain star Marcos Alonso. Replaced by Kasper Hogh ahead of the final 15 minutes of play.

Callum Osmand - 6

Has caught the eye since his return from injury, particularly in a previously unfamiliar left-wing role. Was at the heart of a disputed penalty shout for his team in the first half but limped off just before the hour mark with a suspected hamstring injury.

Camilo Duran - 4

Entrusted with a starting slot through the middle once again but unlike in the demolition of Hearts, wasn't able to offer Celtic a focal point in the final third. Replaced by Sebastian Tounekti for the closing 10 minutes.

James Forrest (Osmand, 58) - 4

Celtic's first substitute of the night. Came on to provide attacking threat down the right flank and was later moved to the left. Tried to get on the ball and get his team up the pitch but spent more time tracking back as Celta began to get a foothold in the clash.

Kasper Hogh (Hassan, 73) - 3

Brought on to try and help turn the tide but hardly got a kick off the ball. That's now 11 games in green-and-white since Hogh's hat trick against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park that saw him open his account for the club.

Sebastian Tounekti (Duran, 80) - 2

Is struggling for regular minutes again this season and had to settle for a short cameo off the bench with Hoops struggling to try and force home an equaliser.

Oliver Sorensen (Baur, 80) - 2

Has yet to find his feet in Scotland following his loan switch from Parma in the summer. Booked in the final minute for a naughty tackle when the ball had gone.
