Antony left Manchester United last summer to join Real Betis on a permanent basis following a loan spell with the Spanish side.

The 26-year-old winger, who made 26 appearances during his initial loan spell at Betis, scored 14 goals and provided ten assists in 41 matches last season for the side.

Controversy continued to follow Antony last season, however, even after life at Old Trafford concluded. In December, he was caught taunting opposition supporters whilst, in March, he clashed with Real Betis fans.

With the new season approaching, the winger had the opportunity to begin a new, clean slate and to further improve his footballing ability.

That aim has not got off to the best of starts, however, with him sent off in a pre-season match against Premier League side AFC Bournemouth for brawling with the Cherries’ Alex Scott.

The incident, which happened just after half-time, followed Nelson Deossa kicking the ball at Bafode Diakite, a strike which was the catalyst to a brawl between both sides.

Alex Scott has been a long-term midfield for Manchester United, who have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for positions in the middle of the park this summer.

The 22-year-old, who has been with Bournemouth since August 2023, made 39 appearances for the club last season.

Recent reports had suggested that United were abandoning their pursuit of the midfielder, however, due to the price that was being demanded by the Cherries.

It remains to be seen what the affects of the brawl between Scott and Antony will have on any possible pursuit.

Bournemouth and Manchester United are due to face off in the Premier League on Saturday October 24th at Old Trafford.

Antony’s Real Betis, on the other hand, could face the Red Devils in the Champions League during the 2026/27 season.
