Graeme Souness keeps making negative comments about Declan Rice, and the Arsenal star continues to prove him wrong.
The England international is one of the best midfielders in world football, and he has been playing at an elite level for club and country for a long time now. He is among the most consistent players we have ever seen.
Arsenal fans absolutely love Rice, and most pundits and ex-players across the game have often raved about his performances as well. But Souness has almost always been an exception.
Very recently, at a time when everyone was praising the Gunners’ midfielder, Souness blasted Rice, accusing him of not even being a midfielder because he doesn’t participate in the build-up enough.
That sounded really silly then, and it feels even sillier now.
Souness thinks Rice wouldn't get into Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Man City…
When Arsenal spent £105 million to sign Declan Rice, he was criticised by Graeme Souness for not directly contributing to enough goals.
The Englishman silenced him then by directly contributing to 17 goals in his debut campaign. He improved that tally to 19 in the following campaign before contributing to 16 last season.
Souness’ argument flopped then and there, but the former Liverpool man is still not willing to give Rice the credit he deserves at Arsenal.
His most recent dig about Rice not even being a midfielder because he plays too deep was so wrong, and that has already been proven this season.
Against Leeds this afternoon, the Arsenal number 41 picked up his third assist of the season, more than any other player in the Premier League.

Three assists in six games is a terrific return for any player, let alone someone who, according to Souness, is always “sitting between two centre-halves”.
The Scot is free to have any opinion he wants, but we think it’s about time now that he drops his agenda against Rice because he’s being proven wrong every time.
As for Rice, we’re sure he doesn’t care, nor should he. What he is doing is appreciated by Mikel Arteta, his Arsenal teammates and the fans. Nobody else matters.
