Bayern Munich are in discussions with the camp of Rio Ngumoha, and Liverpool have reached a decision on whether or not to sanction a hugely lucrative sale.
The goals and assists aren’t yet there, but in the build-up, Ngumoha is already proving unplayable. The livewire winger dribbles past markers for fun, and under Andoni Iraola, is slowly but surely becoming a first-team regular.
The 18-year-old – who Liverpool ended up paying a base fee of just £2.8m to sign – has featured in all but two of Liverpool’s 15 matches in all competitions this season.
Understandably given his sky high ceiling, interest from other powerhouse clubs has been registered, with Arsenal and Bayern Munich most prominent.
Bundesliga champions Bayern attempted to sign Ngumoha over the summer when pushing to land competition for Luis Diaz on the left wing.
Ultimately, no deal was made, with Bayern adding the more versatile Ismael Saibari to their ranks instead.
Liverpool have since accelerated talks over a new contract with Ngumoha, but Bayern aren’t deterred.
According to the latest from German reporter Christian Falk, Bayern are in active discussions with Ngumoha’s camp. Furthermore, Bayern believe a deal could be possible to make next summer.
Falk stated: ‘As we know, Bayern have been searching really hard for options on the left wing.
‘We talked about Bradley Barcola, whom they were in contact with [last summer], and they were also in contact with Liverpool’s young talent [Ngumoha].
‘There were talks, his brother talked with FC Bayern, but it was a difficult situation for Bayern Munich. It was not clear if Liverpool would sell him or not. The price wouldn’t have been extremely high.
‘So, you see, the club’s decision-makers feel he’d be a great option for Bayern Munich, which is why Ngumoha is still on Bayern’s shortlist. In the end, they had to decide for Ismael Saibari.
‘Rio would have been complicated, so they just looked to seal the comparatively easier transfer of the two.
‘Bayern are still in talks with Ngumoha’s camp, however, and he could be an option for the summer.’
But according to our colleagues over on TEAMtalk, Liverpool have no desire whatsoever to sell Ngumoha, even if doing so would generate a gigantic profit.
Their insider, Fraser Fletcher, explained on Friday afternoon: ‘Liverpool sources have made it clear the club have no intention of selling highly rated teenager Rio Ngumoha, despite links to Bayern Munich and monitoring from other European giants.
‘Sources close to the club insist the 18-year-old is viewed extremely highly inside Anfield and is regarded as a supreme talent capable of developing into a key player for the Reds and one of the best in Europe.’
Fletcher went on to note any approaches Liverpool receive from Bayern or any other sides will all be rebuffed.
Furthermore, Liverpool are actively working to extend Ngumoha’s contract – due to expire in 2028 – which will see the teenager receive a substantial pay-rise.
Talks to do just that have recently advanced, and the report concluded by noting it’s entirely possible a full agreement between Liverpool and Ngumoha is reached in the upcoming international break.
