Back in January, a number of major call ups from NXT to Raw and SmackDown took place, which included Oba Femi, Trick Williams and Je’von Evans.

Since his arrival on SmackDown, Trick Williams has become one of the most popular stars on the brand, with him reigning as a two-time United States Champion.

Trick recaptured the United States Championship from Baron Corbin at Sunday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta.

With Trick slated to be one of the future top stars in the company, he is set to challenge for the WWE Championship for the first time in his career this week on SmackDown, which will serve as a major test for his future.

Trick Williams & Sami Zayn’s history

Interestingly, the man holding the Undisputed WWE Championship is someone that Trick has a lot of history with, that being Sami Zayn.

Trick and Sami have had issues dating back to Trick Williams’ first night on SmackDown, with the two of them facing each other for the United States Championship at WrestleMania 42.

Sami made the perfect person to face Trick upon his arrival on the main roster, with him being a veteran of the company able to guide Trick to stardom on the main roster.

Trick Williams as a future World Champion

Much like Sami was his first test on the main roster, Sami is the same man that will put Trick to the test as a potential future top star in WWE.

In recent weeks, Sami Zayn has been cutting promos on Trick on SmackDown, talking about how Trick lacks survival instincts to make it in WWE for 10 years like Sami has, which fans have seen as a way to see how Trick thrives in high pressure situations.

With the match taking place on SmackDown, how the match goes down will be a big eye opener for both fans and those within the company about the potential Trick has as a future World Champion.

In many ways, whether he wins or loses isn’t important for Trick on SmackDown this week, but if he can make the fans believe in him and deliver in a major way, he will be just fine going forward.
