Packers corner Keisean Nixon will play against Cowboys, per Matt LaFleur

GREEN BAY − Green Bay Packers starting cornerback Keisean Nixon will play against the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 18, Packers coach Matt LaFleur confirmed during his Oct. 16 news conference.

Nixon missed practice Oct. 14 after LaFleur said he was “feeling something in his groin.” He returned to practice the following day and participated the past two days in a limited capacity. LaFleur said he made it through practice well.

“I asked him on Wednesday, because he doesn’t miss too many practices, and he looked at me and said, ‘How many games have I missed since I’ve been here?’” LaFleur said. “He’s wired the right way and he loves to compete.”

The Packers have rookie Brandon Cisse on one side, and Carrington Valentine and Benjamin St-Juste as the other backups at corner, but St-Juste is dealing with a hamstring injury and is likely out, so the team will need Nixon for this matchup. The Cowboys sport one of the best offenses in the league, with quarterback Dak Prescott and standout receivers in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

"I think he's played pretty well," LaFleur said of Nixon. "I think we have a great challenge ahead of us, in terms of the two wideouts on the perimeter, and then you’ve got Dak. But he had a good day of practice yesterday and I'm excited for those guys."

The Packers could be a little thin at defensive tackle with several guys dealing with injuries. Veteran tackle Javon Hargrave is out for the season with a torn Achilles, and the game status for two other players up front is still unclear.

“We’ve got a plan, but certainly, it doesn’t help,” LaFleur said of the defensive tackle room.

Until the Packers release their final injury report in the afternoon, here’s the latest:

Aaron Banks injury update

Packers guard Aaron Banks participated in practice all week.

It’s unclear if Banks will be active for the Cowboys game, as he’s missed a lot of time to start the season and might need more time on the practice field.

The veteran offensive lineman has been dealing with knee and toe injuries since the start of the season, playing only in the first half of the Week 2 game against the New York Jets.

Benjamin St-Juste injury update

Packers cornerback Benjamin St-Juste was held out of practice all week.

He’s been dealing with a hamstring injury throughout this season and injured it again during the Week 5 Chicago Bears game.

Skyy Moore injury update

Packers receiver and return specialist Skyy Moore missed practice all week, making it likely he’ll be ruled out when the injury report is released.

Moore suffered an ankle injury during the Bears game, telling PackersNews he injured ligaments in his ankle and described it as like a high-ankle sprain. He wore a boot on his ankle and moved around the locker room on a knee scooter.

LaFleur said he doesn’t anticipate it to be a long-term injury.

Jonathan Ford injury update

Packers defensive tackle Jonathan Ford will likely not play against the Cowboys, according to LaFleur.

Ford made an attempt to come back this week, but didn’t make it through warmups, and was eventually listed as a non-participant in practice the past two days due to a calf injury. He also didn’t practice Oct. 16.

Jacob Monk injury update

Packers guard Jacob Monk participated in practice all week, making it possible he could be available if needed.

Monk has missed the past two games due to a quadricep injury.

Anthony Campbell injury update

Packers defensive tackle Anthony Campbell participated in practice all week, making it possible he’ll make his return to game action.

Campbell also participated in practice all of last week, as well, but was ruled out for the third straight game after injuring his ankle during the Week 2 game against the New York Jets.

“He’s progressing good,” LaFleur said of Campbell’s status. “He had two good days of practice. We’ll see how he does today.”

Savion Williams injury update

Packers receiver Savion Williams is wrapping up his second week of practice and it’s possible the team could activate him off injured reserve.

Williams returned to practice Oct. 7, officially opening his 21-day practice window. He opened the season on injured reserve due to an ankle injury in preseason.

Jordon Riley injury update

Packers defensive tackle Jordon Riley participated in practice all week.

Riley made his return to practice Oct. 14, officially opening his 21-day practice window from the physically-unable-to-perform list, but he likely won’t be available to play as he’s still early in the recovering process from a season-ending Achilles injury during last season's Week 17 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
