NFL Offensive Line Rankings: Rams, 49ers Lead PFN's Top 5 Through Week 6

The Los Angeles Rams have had their share of problems during a disappointing 2-4 start. Their offensive line isn’t one of them.

Los Angeles owns an 88.2 PFN Offensive Line Impact grade entering Week 7, narrowly edging the San Francisco 49ers for the top spot. The Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs complete Max Chadwick’s five highest-graded offensive lines through the first six weeks of the season.

PFN’s team offensive line grading combines pass protection and run blocking while also accounting for penalties and the performance of the individual linemen making up each unit. The result helps separate offensive line performance from the quarterback, running back, and scheme operating around it.

5) Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City has given its offense high-level blocking in both phases, ranking inside PFN’s top five in pass protection and run blocking.

The Chiefs own an 82.5 pass-blocking grade and an 83.7 run-blocking grade. That balance has been important for an offense that no longer has to ask Patrick Mahomes to solve every problem through the passing game.

Creed Humphrey remains the centerpiece. Chadwick considers Humphrey the best center in football, and he owns an 85.2 individual Offensive Line Impact grade through five games. His 81.8 pass-blocking grade and 81.4 run-blocking grade have once again made him one of the most balanced centers in the league.

Trey Smith has provided similar stability at guard. He owns an 84.7 overall grade with an 87.0 run-blocking mark, continuing the high-end play Kansas City has received from the interior of its offensive line for years.

The more surprising development has been Kahlil Benson. The Chiefs needed reliable tackle play, and Benson has responded with an 81.9 overall grade. His 84.6 run-blocking grade has been especially valuable.

Chadwick pointed to that performance as a revelation for Kansas City. Having established stars such as Humphrey and Smith is one thing. Finding another quality starter at tackle is what has helped push the entire unit into the top five.

The line’s performance has also complemented Kenneth Walker III’s spectacular start in the backfield. Walker has created plenty on his own, but Kansas City’s ability to block effectively in both phases has given the offense a level of balance it hasn’t always had in recent seasons.

4) Detroit Lions

Detroit has needed its offense to carry a heavy burden because of the Lions’ defensive problems, and the offensive line has done its part.

The Lions own an 82.4 pass-blocking grade and an 83.2 run-blocking grade, ranking sixth in the NFL in both categories. Three individual linemen also entered Week 7 with grades above 85.

Penei Sewell remains the biggest name of the group. The former first-round pick owns an 87.0 overall grade and has been particularly dominant as a run blocker, where his 96.0 grade is among the very best marks at any offensive line position.

Detroit has gotten more than expected from the interior as well. Juice Scruggs owns an 86.4 overall grade at center, putting him among the highest-graded players at the position. His 92.2 run-blocking grade has been one of the strongest components of Detroit’s ground attack.

Tate Ratledge gives the Lions a third player above 85 with an 85.3 overall grade. His 83.7 pass-blocking grade has provided Detroit with another reliable presence inside.

That gives Chadwick confidence in the unit beyond Sewell. Detroit isn’t grading this highly because one superstar tackle is masking weaknesses elsewhere. Multiple linemen are performing at a high level.

That has been essential for an offense built around Jared Goff and Jahmyr Gibbs. Goff has been one of the league’s most efficient quarterbacks, while Gibbs has emerged as one of its most productive running backs. Detroit’s offensive line has created an environment in which both can operate efficiently.

3) Denver Broncos

Two of the highest-graded individual offensive linemen in football play next to each other in Denver.

The Broncos own an 85.7 team grade, with an 82.9 mark in pass protection and an 83.5 grade as run blockers. Both areas are strong, but the individual performances of Quinn Meinerz and Garett Bolles are what separate the group.

Meinerz has been one of the NFL’s dominant guards. His 91.9 run-blocking grade is the best among guards, while his overall PFN grade sits near the very top of the position.

That performance isn’t an isolated breakout. Meinerz entered 2026 after multiple seasons as one of the league’s highest-graded guards, and he has continued to overwhelm defenders in the running game.

Bolles has been just as important at left tackle. His 84.8 pass-blocking grade is the highest among NFL offensive linemen in the data Chadwick referenced, giving Denver elite performance at one of the sport’s most important positions.

Having that combination allows an offensive line to survive the occasional weaker performance elsewhere. Denver doesn’t need all five starters to rank among the best at their positions when Meinerz can consistently create movement in the running game and Bolles can protect the edge at an elite level.

Luke Wattenberg has also given Denver solid play at center, helping prevent the unit from becoming overly dependent on its two stars.

Chadwick described Meinerz and Bolles as the stars of the show, and PFN’s numbers support it. Few offensive lines have two players performing at a higher individual level.

2) San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco owns one of the more unusual distinctions in PFN’s offensive line data: The 49ers have the highest pass-blocking and run-blocking grades in the NFL, even though their overall offensive line grade ranks second.

The 49ers carry an 84.5 pass-blocking grade and an 87.5 run-blocking grade. Their ability to excel in both phases has played a major role in an offense that has helped make San Francisco one of the league’s top teams.

Trent Williams remains the foundation. Even at 38 years old, Williams owns an 84.8 overall grade and continues playing like one of the league’s better tackles. His 86.0 run-blocking grade shows that age has done little to diminish his ability to control defenders at the point of attack.

Chadwick called Williams an “ageless wonder,” an appropriate description for a player still performing near the top of his position in his 17th NFL season.

Colton McKivitz has given San Francisco quality play on the opposite side. His 82.1 grade places him among the league’s better tackles, meaning the 49ers haven’t had to funnel all of their protection help away from Williams.

Dominick Puni has also provided strong play at guard, while Jake Brendel has remained a reliable presence in the middle. That depth throughout the starting five is a major reason San Francisco can rank at or near the top in both run and pass blocking.

Chadwick particularly emphasized the tackle combination. Williams has spent years playing at an elite level, but McKivitz’s performance means opposing defensive lines can’t simply attack the other edge and assume they have found the weak spot.

The 49ers have gotten excellent quarterback play from Brock Purdy, but the environment around him matters. An offensive line capable of protecting at this level while also creating rushing lanes makes San Francisco difficult to defend regardless of how opponents choose to attack.

1) Los Angeles Rams

The Rams haven’t played like the Super Bowl contender many expected entering the season. Their offensive line has.

Los Angeles owns PFN’s best overall offensive line grade at 88.2. The Rams rank second in both pass blocking and run blocking, making them the only team other than San Francisco with elite-level performance across both areas.

The strength of the group is its balance.

Alaric Jackson owns an 84.2 overall grade at tackle, including an 85.0 run-blocking mark. Warren McClendon Jr. has also given Los Angeles quality tackle play, while the interior has remained consistently productive.

Steve Avila has graded among the league’s better guards, and Kevin Dotson gives the Rams another dependable starter inside. Neither needs to carry the unit because there aren’t obvious weaknesses elsewhere that have to be hidden.

Coleman Shelton has been one of the line’s top individual performers. The veteran center owns an 86.0 overall PFN grade, placing him among the league’s highest-graded centers.

That gives the Rams quality starters across the entire line. Chadwick noted that Los Angeles has multiple top-graded tackles, multiple guards playing at a strong level, and one of the league’s better centers.

The result is a unit without an obvious point of attack for opposing defenses.

That’s particularly significant given the larger discussion around the Rams. A 2-4 record invites scrutiny of every part of the roster, especially for a team that entered the season with championship expectations. Chadwick’s analysis makes clear that the offensive line should be well down the list of concerns.

The Rams’ problems have come elsewhere. Their offensive line has protected well, created rushing lanes, and delivered high-level individual performance from tackle to center.

Through six weeks, no offensive line has been better according to PFN’s grading system.
