Newcastle United, Everton and other Premier League sides are closely watching Dinamo Zagreb star Dion Drena Beljo ahead of the winter market, and took advantage of a Sunderland match to do so.
The striker’s rise at the Croatian side have already seen a few clubs attempt to sign him last summer. He finished last season with 38 goals and six assists.
This season, Beljo has extended his fine form, managing 18 goals and six assists in 19 matches. His impressive performances have led to a rise in his suitors’ list, which includes Newcastle United and Everton.
On October 28th, Sport Witness covered a report from Croatia explaining that Everton could make a move in January. On Thursday, Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović said he’s good enough to move to the Premier League.
He said: “Beljo scores goals, which he also showed against Spain. He can react brilliantly. Let’s not underestimate his goals in the SHNL. Every goal is very important. His club should be dominant.”
There have been reports linking him to Everton, Leeds United, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Brentford, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. After pointing them out, Sportske Novosti points them out and covers the latest about the Magpies.

Newcastle United have sent their scouts to Croatia regularly to watch Dion Drena Beljo live in action for his club.
On Thursday, Dinamo Zagreb secured a 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Europa League.
Magpies officials made a short trip to the Stadium of Light, to ‘hold an audition’ of the frontman.
The Croatia international was on the pitch for 70 minutes and scored the second goal in the 39th minute, after Luka Stojković opened the scoring. Prior to that, he scored three goals against NEC Nijmegen and Anderlecht in the same competition.
Sportske Novosti states the English club had scouted him in the 1-0 win over Anderlecht and again scouted him at Sunderland’s stadium. Besides Matthias Jaissle’s side, other unnamed Premier League sides scouted the frontman on Thursday.
These teams will get another opportunity when Croatia face England in the UEFA Nations League at Wembley on November 12th.
Dion Drena Beljo’s contract is until 2030, and Transfermarkt now value him at €15m. The report adds Dinamo Zagreb’s ‘real price is between €20m and €30m’. There’s a possibility of surpassing the €30m price.
This should be affordable for Newcastle United and other Premier League sides. Whether one of them will take action isn’t clear just yet.
